By Foster Benjamin:
Comedian Gogo Mlewa has said she will continue to use her comics to bring about change.
The comedian on Monday decided to celebrate International Women’s Day by releasing a new comic titled ‘Mwanyanya’.
Gogo Mlewa, who stars alongside her grandson YonaYona Kanga Kantwera, said she decided to offer the clip following an increase in cases of sexual violence against women and children in the country.
“I am offering this clip as a worried mother behind Gogo Mlewa. It is all about growing cases of sexual violence against women and children. Men have gone to the extremes defiling girls.
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day today (Monday), let us choose to challenge our men to be agents of change. Let us protect girls’ rights so that they become a future and productive generation,” the 83-year-old granny, real name Leya Ketrina Mlewa said.
She stressed the need to strongly condemn gender-based violence saying it was robbing women of their potential in life.
Her grandson said it was good that Gogo Mlewa celebrated International Women’s Day with a call to reduce cases of rape and defilement in the country.
She said she was hoping that people will take time to watch the ‘Mwanyanya’ clip.
He disclosed that the duo has tackled a number of important issues facing the society.
“We have released a DVD which is three-in-one and it features trending issues, which include recent attacks on the elderly on witchcraft accusations and Covid. In fact, we have six clips bordering on the pandemic. We want to raise more awareness through the eyes of humour and laughter,” he said.
Gogo Mlewa 2021 Production is being shot by veteran videographer John Nguluwe, who also plays a character of grandson (Mdzukulu) in some clips.
