“It has created job opportunities for young people. We have to ensure there is no encroachment onto the land and that communities don’t graze their livestock nearby,” the paramount chief said.

Roads Fund Administration (RFA) board chairperson Kester Kaphaizi said the project will be completed in June this year.

He added that tough measures will be put in place to ensure that there is no abuse of revenue collected from the facility.

“There are systems in place to make sure every kwacha collected from the facility is accounted for,” Kaphaizi said.

Member of Parliament for Ntcheu Central Constituency, where the facility lies, Albert Mbawala, promised that the community will take care of the tollgate and remain vigilant so that no one vandalises it.

At a cost of K2 billion, the project got rolled out in July 2020 by the government through the Roads Authority and RFA.

The tollgate apparently has the capability of raising up to K4.5 billion annually.

Another one is being constructed in Dedza.
