Gomani V speaks on coronavirus

By Imani Wali:
Inkosi ya Makosi Gomani V of Ntcheu District has said the country needs to step up preparedness for Covid-19 pandemic which has affected many countries globally.
Gomani V Saturday said although Malawi has not yet registered a case, there is need to intensify awareness to combat the threat of the outbreak.
Gomani V applauded steps which the government has taken on the preparedness.
“The pandemic is a global concern and spreading fake news as is the case on social media platforms cannot help the situation. Let us all refrain from sharing such false information. It would be great if we would be sharing the information without causing panic,” he said.
He said the government must also tighten security along border districts considered porous.
“The border districts are also porous, resulting in people moving freely. The government has demonstrated that it is not taking this issue lightly as we have already seen the steps is has taken. Nevertheless, there is also high need to tighten security to combat the outbreak of the pandemic,” he said.
The Maseko Ngoni chief then reminded Malawians on the importance of following proper hygiene practices in a wake of the disease.
Malawi has not officially registered a single case of Covid-19 since the first case was reported in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.
