Good start for Bravehearts in Cezobal championship finals

Bravehearts men’s and ladies’ basketball teams made an impressive start in their opening matches of the Central Zone Basketball (Cezobal) championship finals at African Bible College (ABC) Macon Gym in Lilongwe on Wednesday night.
The men’s team earned a hard-fought 50-49 victory over ABC Lions in an entertaining match whereas the ladies team defeated UNILIL Arkangels 69- 51.
The men’s category contest was evenly balanced as both teams displayed good basketball.
But Bravehearts showed great character as they won the first match in the last 17 seconds, much to the disappointment of ABC.
The teams will face each other in a second match Saturday at the same venue.
Bravehearts have a chance to wrap up the title if they win the second match.
However, it will not be a stroll in the park if results of the first match are anything to go by.
Should ABC win the second match this weekend, the championship will be decided in the last match of the play-offs.
Bravehearts Coach Griffin Kalua admitted that the hosts gave them a good run for their money.
’’Indeed, they came hard on us. But we have learnt a lot and we will improve in the next game,’’ Kalua said.
ABC Coach Jeffrey Kumwenda said he was focusing on Saturday’s match.
“The battle is not over yet. We will fight to the end,’’ Kumwenda said.
As a tradition in basketball, at the end of the regular season, the championship is decided through play-offs.
For four consecutive years, Bravehearts basketball teams have been winning the regional title.
