Gospel artists minister on Sand Fest’s last day

Gospel music ruled on Sunday during the last day of the three-day Sand Music Festival held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi District.
The first and second day saw performances from local artists such as Dan Lufani, Lulu, Leslie, Don Tarz and international artists such as Gramps Morgan from Jamaica, South Africa’s Makhadzi and Nigeria’s Mr P.
With some leaving, having experienced first and second days, others remained until the last day to enjoy the gospel package which included Princess Chitsulo, Gloria Manong’a and Inno Mwana Wa Igwe, Marlyn Chimombo, Great Angels Choir and Wendy Harawa.
There were also performances from Billy Kaunda, who enjoyed people’s support, as well as South Africa’s old-timer Sipho Makhabane.
Makhabane did not skip songs such as ‘Over and Over’ and ‘The Devil is a Liar’ which saw people singing along.
The old-timer promised people that he would come back before the end of the year.
“I have enjoyed every moment here. I love Malawi and I am hoping to come back for sure before the end of the year,” Makhabane said.
During his performance, the artist also gave people CDs of some of his albums in appreciation for their support.
At the end of his performance, Makhabane prayed for the people for safe travel to their homes, being the last day of the festival.
Chitsulo described the festival as a good platform for showing their talent but also ministering the word of God.
“I should commend organisers for considering gospel musicians on their menu. After enjoying other sounds, people also had to be ministered to,” Chitsulo of the ‘Petro’ fame said.
Chimombo also said she was excited to perform at Sand Music Festival.
“I have enjoyed performing and there is more coming from me. I will release another single shortly but there is an album I am working on,” she said.
Wendy, who performed with Lulu in the secular track titled ‘Sindilichoncho’ on Saturday, had another share on the gospel front, ministering the word of God through music collaborating with Lulu.
