This year’s GOtv Netball Champions League is expected to throw-off on Saturday at Katoto Secondary School in Mzuzu amid reports that 80 percent of sponsorship will go towards prize money and welfare of players.
MultiChoice Malawi Marketing Manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, said GOtv believes that teams and players deserve to get more hence 80 percent of the sponsorship will go direct to the teams.
“We also believe that teams which qualified for this tournament are all winners hence the minimum each team would get by just participating is K1.7 million,” he said.
Nyirenda said GOtv has allocated K18, 100, 000 towards prizes with the champions pocketing K2.5 million while the runners-up will get K1.5 million. The third placed side will pocket K1 million with the fourth-placed team receiving K900, 000.
The fifth-placed side will get K800,000 with the teams on position six , seven and eight receiving K700,000, K600,000 and K500,000 respectively.
Nyirenda said each participating team would get K1.2 million subvention which totals to K9.6 million.
GOtv has allocated about K4.5 million for administration and other expenses like fees for umpires and time keepers, trophies, branded uniforms, hiring of venues, regional committees and Netball Association of Malawi.
Nyirenda said GOtv has organised a launching ceremony on Saturday at Katoto Secondary School where the new locally made trophy would be officially unveiled to the public.
“The new trophy has a feature of decoders symbolising the digital migration in Malawi,” he said.
The teams have been drawn into two groups with defending champions Complex Tigresses, Blue Eagles Sisters, Mafco and Mimosa Queens making up GOtv-Plus group while Kukoma Diamonds, Civonets, Thunder Queens and Lameck Queens complete GOtv-Value group.
