After a one-year break, MultiChoice Malawi has announced the return of GOtv Netball Champions League.
MultiChoice Sales and Marketing Manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda, said the tournament will take place in August and September.
“The period has been selected to give Malawi national netball team ample time to prepare for the 2017 Fast5 Netball Series which will take place in October in Australia,” he said.
The GOtv tournament’s format will be similar to that of the Fast5 format. Queens impressed at the 2016 Fast5 Netball Series where they finished on third place.
“As you may recall, in 2014, GOtv Netball Tournament changed the format to Fast5. The idea behind this was to familiarise local players with the system of play.
“The success of the Queens at the 2016 Fast5 has shown that the players benefited from that tournament. We hope coaches can also use the GOtv Fast5 when selecting players,” Nyirenda said
Nyirenda also disclosed that the GOtv matches will be broadcast live on a local television station.
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) General Secretary, Carol Bapu, said they were happy with the return of GOtv.
“It will help us prepare for the Fast5 Netball World Series set for Australia in October. This is a good warm-up tournament,” she said.
