GOtv final lap gets underway Friday
All eyes are on Blue Eagles Sisters as the final round of the third edition of GOtv Netball Champions League throws-off Friday at Don Bosco in Lilongwe.
Eagles have been billed to lift the trophy after beating defending champions, Complex Tigresses, twice in the first and second round games.
In the first semifinal, Eagles meet Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League most improved side, Thunder Queens, with Tigresses entertaining inaugural champions, Kukoma Diamonds in another semifinal.
The winners meet in the final on Saturday with the losers fighting for bronze.
Eagles coach, Sam Kanyenda, said they were unfazed with the task that lies ahead.
“We have been in perfect condition. We won all our games and we need to finish off what we started. I have faith in my players; they never give up,” he said.
Thunder senior player, Thandie Galeta, said they should not be written off.
“It’s a tough fixture but we are prepared. Of late, we have improved tremendously. We are also gunning for the trophy,” said the Malawi Queens attacker.
Eagles will rely on Malawi Queens duo of Takondwa Lwazi and Joyce Mvula while Thunder also have experienced defender Joanna Kachilika.
Diamond assistant coach, Noel Mussa, admitted that defending champions, Tigresses, were seething with rage following their recent defeats to Eagles in GOtv and Diamonds in Rainbow Paints League.
“They will come flat out because their performance hasn’t been good of late. We are prepared for the final battle,” he said.
Mussa will bank on Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo-Nyirenda and shooter Alinafe Kamwala to do the damage.
Tigresses assistant coach, Charles Mhango, said they will not let go the championship without a fight.
“This is to tell you that we will do anything possible to defend the championship,” he said.
Tigresses have promising wing defender, Cathy Yikwanga, attacker Rose Saili and Licy Akidu-Fiwa, and also shooter Sindie Simtowe, who ironically is GOtv brand ambassador.
