Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, has endorsed the Mzuzu University (Mzuni) Alumni Dinner and Dance that will take place Friday night at Sunbird Capital.

Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Vincent Ghambi, who will be the guest honour, has since appealed to Malawians of good will to support the fundraising initiative whose proceeds will go towards re-stocking of Mzuzu University Library which was gutted by fire on December 18, 2015.

Ghambi said his ministry found it necessary to support the good cause as the university contributes a lot to the development of this country.

“I would like to see the university up and running. If the University has problems, its standards will be affected which will affect the ministry and the whole country,” Ghambi said.

He commended Mzuni alumni for coming up with the fundraising initiative. He, however, added that Malawians should not sit back and watch while the alumni contribute as the library supports students from across the country hence failure to help would cost everyone.

According to the spokesperson and chairperson of the Mzuni Alumni Media Committee Clifton Kawanga, the alumni realises its responsibility to give back to the university.

“Since its inception in 1999, the university has played a huge role in tertiary education in Malawi through a number of programmes. We are equally saddened by the loss of books and other equipment after fire gutted the library,” he said.

For those willing to contribute, the banking details are as follows: MZUNI Alumni Association, National Bank of Malawi (NBM), Henderson Street Branch, Account Number: 1002155881.

Mzuni Alumni was formed in 2005 to uphold the values of the university by promoting and complementing its efforts in providing quality education, training and research and complementary services to meet the technological, social and economic needs of individuals and communities in Malawi and beyond.
