Government hails stadium, hospital contractors

Minister of Transport and Public Works Ralph Jooma on Thursday toured Phalombe Hospital and Thyolo Stadium projects where he hailed contractors for what he called quality standard work.
The visit was aimed at appreciating progress of the two government-funded projects and see how the work has been affected by Covid-19.
Jooma said he expects the work to continue on the two sited and that workers would follow all preventive measures.
“I am impressed that we checked measures that the contractors are following and it is according to the rules. The hospital is expected to be opened this year depending on equipment,” Jooma said.
National Construction Council of Malawi (NCIC) officials were part of the entourage to appreciate standard of work being done.
NCIC Chief Executive Officer, Linda Phiri, said the team was there to ensure that contractors are adhering to NCIC-set guidelines
Dec Construction Project Manager, Ellard Malonda, said Covid-19 has however, affected progress for the project.
