Government spends K1.3 Billion on Zomba Dual Carriage Project

Expansion of the 800 metre stretch Namiwawa road in Zomba from a single lane carriage way to a dual carriage has commenced.
The upgrade will cost K1.3 Billion.
While cautioning contractors assigned to upgrade roads in the old capital against doing substandard work, Zomba City Mayor Davie Maunde is optimistic once complete, the road will ease traffic in the city’s central business area.
“There have been long queues across this street, which is the biggest. This is why we noted with concern that it needs to have a dual carriage. We are sure it would improve the problems motorists had,” he said.
Following the development, some residents and business people within the business area have expressed gratitude over the project.
In an interview with Times 360 this morning, Gift Zuze a Taxi operator told us the move will ease his business operations.
“This is a good move considering that long queues delayed us before. We no longer need long queues,” he said.
The project is being handled by CAS Civil Contractors and the company is expected to complete the works within 150 days.
The project is part of the three K4.1 Billion road projects which government is funding in the city.
