Grace Chinga’s tombstone to be unveiled Saturday
Grace Chinga’s tombstone will be unveiled on Saturday at HHI Cemetery in Blantyre, a family member has said.
The deceased’s brother, Davie, said Tuesday that all was set for the tombstone unveiling.
“We would like to inform Malawians that the tombstone unveiling of my sister, Grace, is on Saturday at HHI Cemetery. We will start at 9am and by noon we will be through,” Davie said.
He said they would have done the tombstone unveiling in March, the month Grace passed on, but they were not ready.
“We didn’t have enough money by then so we could not manage but now the tombstone is ready. We still miss our sister Grace. The tombstone unveiling will also be like a memorial,” he said.
Davie called on people to be part of the tombstone unveiling, indicating that there would also be performances by musicians.
“We will have a service and performances by musicians. The service will be conducted close to where Grace was laid to rest,” he said.
Grace died on March 17 last year.
Born on June 28 1978, she is survived by three children— Miracle, Steve Spesho and Israel.
Grace was no ordinary singer. She impressed many with her music and posthumously became one of the top recipients of Airtel Malawi ringtone royalties for the period 2013-2015, receiving over K1 million.
She debuted with Yekha in 2002 which had the song ‘Uleke’.
However, it was her second album, Thandizo Langa, which was released in 2005 that raised her profile, winning the hearts of many people.
The gospel album features songs such as ‘Kweza Maso’, ‘Delira’, ‘Getsemani’, ‘Sambi’, ‘Murena’, ‘Ndani Wamva Uthenga’, ‘Zioni’, ‘Zolengedwa Ziyimba’ and ‘Mtanda’.
Her other album is Ndizayimba Nyimbo which features songs such as ‘Korona.’
The singer also left behind two albums, one titled Esther which was launched by her daughter Miracle. The other album is yet to be launched.
Grace was from Leza Village, Traditional Authority Makhuwira, in Chikwawa District.
