Grace Mhango to lead Malawi Queens

Tigresses’ skipper, Grace Mwafulirwa- Mhango, has been named as Malawi Netball Queens’ captain in the absence of Caroline Mtukule- Ngwira who is on maternity break.

Towera Vinkhumbo- Nyirenda of Kukoma Diamonds and Thunder Queens’ Joanna Kachilika will assist Mwafulirwa- Mhango as vice-captains, Queens’ Coach, Griffin Saenda senior, confirmed.

“I have the confidence in the three. They have played netball for some time. They are senior players and are experienced. They will be assisting each other with Grace taking the lead,” he said.

Mhango said it was not the first time that she had skippered the Queens.

“Our mission is to move a step up. We just have to be united if we are to break into top-four [of the world ranking],” she said.

This week, Saenda is expected to name a final 10-member squad out of 21 players in camp ahead of the trip to Australia for the Fast5 Netball World Series.

Currently, Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) needs K20 million to participate in the competition to be played at Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

The event will see the world’s top six netballing nations competing in netball’s fast and exciting modified version.

The host country and I n ternat ional Netball Federation provides accommodation and other travel expenses to participating teams.

Other teams invited include New Zealand, South Africa, England and Jamaica.
