Jamaican singer and songwriter Gramps Morgan will arrive in the country on September 28 ahead of his debut performance at this year’s Sand Music Festival to be held at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi District from October 1 to 3.

Festival organisers have said Nigeria’s Mr P, former member of the disbanded P Square, will arrive on September 30.

“We are ready and are making final touches as we get closer. So, on the festival week, we have artists coming in everyday to 30th September and we are ready to grant all of them a grand welcome and for good preparations,” Festival Manager and International Artist Liaison Person, Wendy Harawa, said.

Apart from Gramps and Mr P, Wendy said Ugandan gospel artist Levixone will also arrive on September 28 whereas South African veteran gospel musician Sipho Big Fish Makhabane will jet in on September 29.

She also said that another South African musician Makhadzi will arrive in the country on September 30.

“The airport will be busy next week with celebrities and it is all about selling Malawi to the world. Malawi is the country to be and embrace,” Wendy said.

Gramps is the international headliner for the second day whereas Mr P and Makhadzi are the international headliners for the first day, with Makhabane headlining the festival on the last day, when he is expected to share the stage with Soldier Lucius Banda.

Over 50 local acts are expected to perform at the 11th edition of the festival, which last year took place at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima District but has gone to Sunbird Nkopola this year due to construction works.

Gramps of the ‘People Like You’ fame said last week that he will be performing with a full band and that he was excited to return to Malawi for the third time.

Lucius, who is director of the festival, said recently that they have invested a lot in this year’s edition and called for support from companies, organisations and other players, who benefit from the festival.
