Grant Lungu granted trials in South Africa
South Africa National First Division side, Witbank Spurs FC, are reportedly assessing Premier Bet Wizards’ striker, Grant Lungu.
Lungu, who joined Wizards towards the end of the TNM Super League’s first round after being idle for some years, featured once for the Peter Mponda’s side.
The former Bullets’ prolific forward sneaked to South Africa’s Mpumalanga Province a fortnight ago.
He said he was optimistic that after parting ways with the then Absa Premiership side, Black Leopards, three years ago, he will make it at Spurs.
“I am trying my luck here. I was tipped by a friend that this team is looking for players and I thought it wise to come and see if they will be interested in me. I have played some friendly matches. I will try to impress,” Lungu said.
However, Mponda said on Tuesday he was not aware of Lungu’s trials.
Mponda and Lungu played together at Leopards.
“We wish him the very best of luck. If he passes the test, we won’t ask for anything [transfer fee]. He should use this chance to the fullest. I am sure this might be his last chance,” Mponda said.
Spurs are on position eleven with seven points from six matches. They drew 1-1 against Santos FC on Saturday.
