Great Angels Choir gears up for Christmas
Lilongwe-based group Great Angels Choir wants to celebrate with Malawians during this festive season hence launching the DVD of their Mwasankha Ine album.
After successfully launching the DVD in Blantyre early this month, Great Angels brings the launch to Sheaffer Square Gardens in Lilongwe on Christmas Day before dating Gymkhana Club in Zomba on Boxing Day.
The group nicknamed ‘The Peoples Choir’ will then take the DVD launch to Mlambe Motel in Balaka before winding up their programme with another concert at Mzuzu Boma Park on January 1.
The group was expected to launch the DVD in November but they shifted it to this month following their participation in the Sunbird Sand Music Festival.
The group will once again come face to face with Billy Kaunda who also performed during the launch in Blantyre.
“We are ready for the launch in Lilongwe and we are even happy that we will be performing on Christmas Day, we will be celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ in style,” said Great Angels Music Director Ephraim Zonda.
Some of the artists set to perform in Lilongwe are Grace Chinga, Mlaka Maliro, Limbani Simenti and Wagwedza Yesu Boys.
Zonda said just like they did in Blantyre, they will dish out several songs in Lilongwe.
The artists performing in the other shows include King James Phiri, Steve Muliya, Violet Tengani Dumba, Donnex Muva, Martha Nthakomwa, Martha Kasambara and Kelvin Sato.
Produced by John Nguluwe of Positive Arts, the 10-track DVD has songs such as ‘Musalolele Mulungu,’ ‘Tadikira,’ ‘Mphamvu Ndilibe,’ ‘Opanda Dipo,’ ‘Kodi Alipo?,’ ‘Samadziwa Kanthu,’ and ‘Akubwera.’
“It has taken us nine months working on the DVD and it’s a DVD in which we have spent more money compared to our previous DVDs,” said Zonda.
The album was produced by Joseph Tembo and according to Zonda; they have sold close to 136,000 copies.
The group’s other previous albums include Mundifungatire (2005) Gwireni Dzanja (2007) and Ndiyende Bwanji (2010).
