Lilongwe-based gospel group Great Angels will celebrate New Year by holding a Happy New Year Celebration at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC).
The New Year Celebration concert that has a rich line-up of artists following their failure to hold a Christmas Celebration concert on December 25 at the same venue.
The group’s music director Ephraim Zonda said, having failed to hold a Christmas Celebration concert on December 25, they thought it wise to celebrate the New Year with a concert.
“We were supposed to hold this concert on Christmas day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ but we could not go ahead due to the Covid-19 pandemic restriction measures and despite getting an injunction later, things did not work,” Zonda said.
He said a lot of people came on December 25 and that they were disappointed that they had cancelled the concert.
“Having discussed with BICC, we thought of having the concert on January 1. The change is only the date but we started planning for this long time ago and, so, we have no problem. We are ready and all the artists on the line-up are ready,” Zonda said.
The concert on January 1 will star Great Angels as headliners, and others are Anthony Mr Cool Makondetsa, Thocco Katimba, Wycliffe Chimwendo, Limbani Simenti, Miracle Chinga and Lulu.
Zonda described 2020 as a tough year when artists had been affected by Covid-19 pandemic.
“It’s been hard with Covid-19 pandemic but we still praise God for taking us through. We are looking forward to the best in 2021 and let me also say that we will use this platform to let people sample our new songs from the new album Ufumu Umodzi Siwuwukilana,” he said.
The group has released three promotional songs currently enjoying airplay in some of the local radio stations and the songs are ‘Ndikhale’, ‘Ndizingwa’ and Nzayahweh’.
Zonda said, with the pandemic, they would follow all the necessary precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, Lulu who was billed to hold a festival on the same day, has announced that the event has been cancelled due to Covid-19 pandemic.— Additional reporting by Sam Banda Jnr
