Griffin Saenda dares new players
Malawi National Netball Team Coach, Griffin Saenda, has dared four new players in the squad to step up their game and impress during the Africa Netball Championship.
Speaking at Chileka Airport before departure for Kampala, Uganda, Saenda Sunday said it was time for new players to break into the team.
The Queens will be without six key players that include Captain Caroline Mtukule-Ngwira, vice skipper, Grace Mwafulirwa- Mhango, Towera Vinkhumbo- Nyirenda, Mwawi Kumwenda of Melbourne Vixens, Australia, Takondwa Lwazi and Sindie Simtowe.
“To miss your key players is always a concern. I have urged all the players that are travelling with us for the first time to make the most of this opportunity. They should aim at helping the Queens win the championship,” he said.
Saenda admitted that the task of reclaiming the continental championship would be huge due to the absence of the key players.
Malawi interim Captain, Joana Kachilika, also challenged the new players to avoid being overwhelmed by the occasion.
“What we want is to bring glory to the nation and we need the new players to prove their abilities in the team,” she said.
Newly-elected Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) President, Khungekile Matiya, who is part of the delegation, was also hopeful that Queens would do well.
