Revered netball coach Griffin ‘Zagallo’ Saenda has been admitted to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) in Blantyre after a minor stroke.
His son, Griffin Saenda Jnr, confirmed the former Malawi national netball team coach collapsed at his home in Chimwankhunda Township, Blantyre, on Thursday before he was admitted to QECH the same day in Ward 3B bed 33.
“My father hasn’t been feeling well for some time as he suffers from diabetes and hypertension. He fainted on the Thursday and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors are expected to conduct further heart and kidney tests,” he said.
One of the netball officials who visited Saenda appealed for support, saying the family alone could not help him.
“The situation is not good. He is a man who worked hard for this nation and achieved great results. Let’s hope he will he assisted for the service he rendered to the nation,” said the source.
Saenda coached top local clubs including Kukoma Diamonds, formerly Escom Sisters, and First Choice Tigresses, previously known as Admarc Tigresses.
