Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has resolved to reshuffle the Malawi national netball team coaching panel in readiness for the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 World Cup.
Sources suggest that Queens Coach, Griffin Saenda Snr, will likely be given an advisory role as Nam looks for a coach to guide the Queens to the two major tournaments.
Ironically, Saenda and his assistant Whyte Mulilima, were offered year-long deals in April this year.
Nam President, Khungekile Matiya, was however quick to point out that the impending reshuffle did not mean that the coaches had under-performed.
Matiya said it was necessary to bring in another coach in line with their long term goals.
“We met recently and reviewed the performance of our coaches after the World Cup. It was encouraging and satisfactory considering the resources at our disposal and the team’s preparations.
“However, as we focus on long term targets, we feel it is necessary to make some changes. You may wish to know that we also want to have under-17 and 20 squads for development purposes. So for Mr Saenda, we feel he can assist us in an advisory role because of his vast experience,” she said.
Matiya said Nam would issue a statement on the matter before the end of the week.
Several netball pundits, including former Queens skipper Emmie Waya-Chongwe and ex- Nam General Secretary and Coach, Edith Kaliati also asked the association to consider replacing Saenda.
Malawi slumped to ninth position on International Netball Federation rankings after remaining inactive on the international stage for more seven months.
The Queens finished sixth at July’s World Netball Cup in Liverpool.
