Kukoma Diamonds Coach, Griffin Saenda Senior, has said he wants three additions to his squad to fight off opposition on the domestic scene.
“Of course, we are still a force to reckon with because of the players we signed during that time [Escom Sisters’ era]. Over the years, the likes of Bridget Gawaza have broken into the team but we just need three new players for them to learn from senior players. So far, we have a defender and shooter we are nurturing for the task ahead,” he said.
Record signing Annabel Phiri, who was recruited from Lameck Queens of Mzuzu at K600,000 a few years ago, has struggled to break into the team.
Saenda guided Diamonds to their second silverware in the just-ended 2018/19 season after beating Blue Eagles Sisters 38-35 to reclaim the Presidential Trophy.
Diamonds lost the trophy in Saenda’s absence during the 2017/18 season when the side went down to Eagles 38-36.
“It was sad that we gave away the trophy when I was ill but I am now back so we had to win to prove that we are still good,” he said.
