Griffin Saenda, Whyte Mulilima handed 1-year deals
By Mphatso Malidadi:
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has handed one-year contracts to coach Griffin Saenda senior and his assistant, Whyte Mulilima to steer the Queens’ ship at the World Cup in the United Kingdom.
Last year, the pair was given a contract to specifically take charge of the Queens at the Fast5 Netball World Series in Australia and Africa Netball Championship in Zambia.
Nam General Secretary, Carol Bapu, confirmed that the association had offered year-long deals to Saenda and Mulilima ahead of the World Cup set for M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England, from July 7 to 21 2019.
Bapu said this follows a post-mortem which the association held three weeks ago to assess if it was necessary to hire another coach or stick to Saenda and Mulilima.
“Last time, we hired them just for two tournaments but now we have offered them a year-long contract each. We feel that they will be able to continue building from where they left,” she said.

Saenda said he was excited with the challenge as he intends to blend youthful with experienced players.
“It is always exciting and an honour to serve your country. Coaching a national team is what everyone dreams of. I know it is a difficult assignment but we can impress at the World Cup. I will look at players and possibly bring in newcomers to combine them with experienced ones,” he said.
