Local football fans are likely to watch talented striker Peter Banda in the TNM Super League in the new season as his club Griffin Young Stars is ready to sell him to local teams.
Stars have been reluctant to do business with Malawian clubs for the past three years despite team officials’ attempts to sign Peter.
But the First Capital Bank under-20 national league club appears to have realised that time is ripe for the son of former Bullets and Wanderers prolific midfielder Chikondi Banda to play in the top flight league.
Stars Coach and owner Griffin Saenda Jnr said Peter is set to showcase his skills in the top flight league in the 2019 season.
“His focus is now on the two games that the Malawi under-23 national football team will play against Zambia but we feel he is ready to play for a top team,” Saenda Jnr.
Peter has had trials outside Malawi on several occasions but nothing has materialised.
His last trials were in Belgium at Club Brugge alongside defender Precious Sambani but he did not make the grade.
He also had unsuccessful trials with South Africa Premier Soccer League giants Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits which bore no fruits.
Locally, the youngster is on the radar of giants such as Nyasa Big Bullets, Be Forward Wanderers and Silver Strikers.
Former Bullets and Wanderers goal poacher Andrew Chikhosi said Peter has the potential to shine at top level.
“I know Peter very well. He is a good player who just needs to be given game time. My advice is that he should choose a good club which will offer him game time,” Chikhosi formed a deadly combination with Peter’s father during their playing days at the two archrivals.
Peter has scored vital goals for the national teams at under-17 and under-20 levels.
He is also one of the youngsters who are regularly called up for senior national team training.
