Griffin Youngsters ask for league break
Blossoming Griffin Youngsters of the FMB Under-20 Southern Region Football Association League have asked for exemption from league games for the next two weeks, saying they are unable to raise a team due to unforeseen circumstances.
Youngsters were due to face Be Forward Wanderers Under-20 tomorrow at Blantyre Youth Centre but the game has been shifted to a later date in line with the former’s request.
League officials have confirmed that Youngsters will not play against Wanderers this weekend and will only be given games starting from next week.
Youngsters Coach, Griffin Saenda Jnr, said he had officially communicated to the league that he would not manage to raise a team for two weeks because of logistical challenges.
“The officials verbally accepted our request and it is our hope that they will live up to their word. We want to compete in the league with a full squad. We have some in-house issues to sort out, hence our inability to raise a team,” he said.
The league’s Secretary, Joseph Semu, said the issue is tricky because of time factors.
“Yes, we are not giving them games this week. They were supposed to play against Wanderers. But next week they have to play two games. We are racing against time because some players will have to be excused for MSCE (Malawi School Certificate of Education) examinations,” he said.
Youngsters boast of a wealth of talent in the developmental league with junior national team star, Peter Banda, being one of the players.
The team finished as runners-up at district level last season.
