Group named after Springs star

In an effort aimed at honouring and celebrating the works of gospel music icon Jomo Nkunika, a new entertainment management initiative has been named after him.

The entertainment outfit is called Jomo Music Group.

Nkunika, one of the founders of Springs gospel outfit, which made headlines with songs such as ‘Muloleleni Yesu’, died in United States of America (USA) last year.

The group’s managing director Keith Kamwana, who is based in Georgia, USA, said Wednesday they have been inspired by the works of Nkunika, hence naming the outfit after his name.

“Jomo Nkunika was a brother and friend and not only did he inspire us, but he also paved the way for a new generation of gospel artists in Malawi,” Kamwana said.

Having also had stints in the country’s music industry, where he was part of R&B gospel out Reazon Y alongside Amos Soko, Kamwana said, through the group, they want to continue what they started.

Soko, who is the group’s production director and based in Canada, said they want to continue what they started.

“We are looking at scouting new talent and managing budding artists while honouring the music legacy of our beloved brother and friend,” he said.

The group’s publicist Peter Mmangisa, who is based in Connecticut, USA, said people should watch the space for exciting projects.

“We are serious about what we are doing and we will provide artists we will be working with with all the resources. We are also looking at issues of music coaching, music and video production, distribution and marketing,” Mmangisa said.

He said, their overall goal is to unearth talent and take it to the world.

“Jomo Music Group will soon open up communication for those interested. We as a group, welcome every Malawian who dares to work extremely hard to push their talent beyond the limits,” Mmangisa said.
