Guitar keeps Isaac Chilemba busy

Following his recent injury, boxer Isaac ‘Golden Boy’ Chilemba has found a way of keeping busy— he is learning to play the guitar.

“The guitar is an instrument that I have always wanted to learn to play. This is what is keeping me busy at the moment,” the boxer said in Blantyre on Sunday.

Chilemba was forced to retire at the end of the eighth round against Ukrainian boxer, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, with a broken hand late last year. The bout took place in the United States.

The light heavyweight boxer then underwent surgery.

“My hand i recovering. As you may recall, I tore ligaments,” Chilemba said.

The 29-year-old was quick to point out that he will be back in the ring.

“It will take a while. I am working hard to be back in the ring. I am optimistic that I will be back at the end of this year or next year,” he said.

The boxer then thanked people for the support.

“Let me assure them that I will always do my best to represent Malawi as far as boxing is concerned,” he said.

The South Africa-based boxer jetted into the country on Friday and attended the opening of Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
