Gwamba set to launch K1m trophy
Musician Gwamba, real name Duncan Zgambo, has announced that he will on November 1 launch a K1 million Area 18 football and netball trophy in Lilongwe.
The artist, who moved from secular to gospel, posted on his Facebook page last week that the main objective of the trophy is to promote talent and also try and keep the youth away from bad behaviour.
“The trophy will run for 31 days. On the final day, we will feed orphans kwa Senti and after the final, there will be a free performance by Gwamba and Emm Q,” the Zizakhala Better star said.
He then called upon all interested teams to register in advance, stressing that Super League players will not be allowed to participate.
“This is the hood that made me. This is the place that supported me to grow into an artist I am today. When I thought of sponsoring a tournament, the first people that came to my mind were the people of Area 18,” he said.
He said the K1 million is divided into K700,000 for football and K300,000 for netball.
“I have put in place a committee so that everything goes smoothly. I want to help in growing talent and apart from that, as I said, I will also perform for free,” said the artist, who recently also announced that he had partnered with musician Lucius Banda for the Jamaican musician Busy Signal concert through his Better Energy drink.
The Busy Signal concert will be held on September 3 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
