At least 20 handball coaches are undergoing an International Handball Federation (IHF) C-Licence coaching course in Lilongwe.
Olympic Solidarity has sponsored the course—running from August 14 to 24—through Malawi Olympic Committee (Moc).
Germany-based IHF instructor Wolfgang Lowak is drilling 14 male and six female coaches. The coaches completed Level One course in 2015.
Lowak said he was impressed with the coaches’ hard work.
“This is my second time to come to Malawi and I have noted that the sport is improving in the country. My aim is to take Malawi handball to the next level by improving the standards of coaches,” Lowak said.
Moc Treasurer, Henry Sakala, urged the participants to take the course seriously and contribute to the sport’s development.
Malawi Handball Association Vice Chairperson, Macwell Msokwa, said the association wants to introduce a handball league soon.
Successful participants from the course will introduce teams in their respective places and identify players for the national team earmarked for IHF Zone V1 Games.
Blackson Malamula and Sam Msuku are Malawi’s qualified handball coaches so far.
