Blossoming boxer, Hannock Phiri, showed his class when he knocked out Byson Gwayani in the sixth-round of the 12-round title contest to snatch the Super Lightweight belt at M1 Centre Point on Sunday.

Phiri has ended the year on a high having won two belt including the World Professional Boxing Federation in Zambia.

The challenger-Phiri-dominated the first two rounds, when he unleashed flurry of punches and he sent his opponent to the canvas twice.

Sensing danger, Gwayani upped the tempo and he dominated the fight in round three but lacked a killer punch. But Phiri reorganised and knocked out his opponent in round six to claim the belt.

In his victory speech, Phiri was pleased with the performance and warned other boxers that he was ready for any challenge.

“It was a good fight and I met one of the good boxers in the country but I knew he could not last more rounds in the ring. Any boxer who is willing to challenge me should be prepared for a tough fight,” Phiri said.

Gwayani accepted defeat but said he would be looking for revenge in the near future.

“I did my part but it was not my day. But he should not feel he is on top of the world because I will come back stronger,” Gwayani said.

Meanwhile, Phiri has three months to defend his belt. But Limbani Chikapa challenged Phiri saying he was ready to snatch the belt next year.

Ngwenyama Boxing Promotion organised the bout. The stables director, Patrick Ngwenyama, said he was satisfied with the huge turnout of fans.

“We have finished the year on a good note and we hope we gave the boxing fans a rare treat. We will continue organising top class bouts next year so that our fans get the best from us,” he added.

In the main supporting bout, Alick Mwenda defeated Cameroon Mc Calister on unanimous decision whereas the bout between Grey Chinkwapulo and Accras Chombo ended in a draw. Alick Mbemba defeated Buda Chikoko whereas Halliet Ntende knocked out Loveness Kokha in another bout.
