You do not just kill people and walk away with it like nothing happened.
Shedding of blood has got its repercussions and sometimes in ways that most people do not imagine.
It was midnight and Mzuzu was raining heavily.
The sound of lightning and thunder pounded on the northern city like a war-zone.
Dokiso was wide awake.
He could not go to sleep again after his nightmare.
The girl he had forced to have an abortion appeared in his dream carrying a baby that resembled him to the smallest detail – a true replica.
The girl looked sad.
She had tears running on her juvenile cheeks.
“Are you happy now that I am dead?” the girl quizzed Dokiso.
Dokiso had nothing to answer.
The girl shoved the baby into his arms and walked away.
Dokiso looked at the baby but the baby looked sick.
It began to transform into a snake.
He did not know what to do.
He yelled the girl’s name but she had vanished into thin air.
He dropped the baby down and began to run.
After running for a while, he came to a big tree where he sat down.
He was tired and worn out from the run.
Then all over sudden, he heard a whisper from the tree above him.
He looked up and saw the snake he had run away from climbing down the tree.
As he was about to get up and run, the snake jumped to his hands.
He screamed for help.
His wife woke him up and asked what was happening.
“It was just a dream,” he responded.
His heart was pounding fast.
He was breathless.
This dream was not just a nightmare.
It was a true story.
A few years ago, he got into an affair with a young girl at the high school he was teaching.
His friends warned him but he ignored their advice.
As time went by, he became careless.
He crossed the physical boundaries and impregnated his own student.
He knew that his career and reputation was at a huge risk.
Dokiso forced the girl to terminate her pregnancy.
He threatened her until she complied.
Unfortunately, the abortion went wrong and she bled to death.
The parents were completely kept in the dark about the affair.
They did not know who was responsible.
The girl’s uncle confronted him after hearing some rumours but he categorically refused.
There was no evidence to tie him down to the death of the girl.
He seemingly got away with it.
He pretended to be strong but his life was no longer the same.
He had no peace of mind.
Night after night, scary dreams punctuated his sleep.
On several occasions, his wife encouraged him to seek medical help but he vehemently rejected the idea.
He kept his career but sacrificed his peace.
One day, two police officers came to his classroom.
They arrested him and took him to the police station for questioning.
The girl’s phone history gave him away.
All the illicit messages from the inception of the affair were recovered using forensic phone technology.
Dokiso’s trial took half a year after which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
He lost his career, his reputation, his marriage, his peace and his freedom.
That is exactly what sin does.
It robs us of our innocence and makes us easy prey for destruction.
The devil comes to steal, kill and destroy.
It does not matter what sin you are doing.
It will eventually get you down.
And for those who think killing is as easy as it sounds are dead wrong.
The taking away of another man’s life is sinful before God and just like all sins has consequences.
There may be no evidence, no witnesses to your murder but God is watching.
Cain killed Abel and faced a disastrous end.
Even the man after God’s own heart, David, could not build the temple because he had blood in his hands.
It is not a mere abortion. It is a loss of life. It is not good riddance when you kill your enemy.
It is called murder.
