currently working on an album
By Thabi Mwenifumbo:
After being silent for some time, award-winning United Kingdom-based musician Hazel Mak has re-appeared with a new single titled ‘Saka Saka’.
The ‘Liyaya’ maker said in an interview that the new tune showcases her range with electronic energy, amapiano and deep house.
She said this is a footstep in a different musical direction for her and that it sets the tone for what is coming up for her next year.
The song has been produced by South African deep house DJ and producer M Patrick, who is known for running different labels including Bomba Records SA.
“I am very excited about this new single and especially about this collaboration. It serves as a beautiful beginning of a musical partnership between me and M Patrick,” she said.
Amapiano being one of the trending genres, Hazel Mak said she decided to tap into it and that more amapiano and electronic afro sounds should be expected from her in 2023.
“I am currently working on an album. I have been recording for the past two years; so, there is a lot of material to get through but the records are worth about three albums. So, it is just a matter of diving through the best records,” Hazel Mak said.
The video for the track, to drop soon, was shot at Dzaleka Refugee Camp and, according to Hazel Mak, it will have two documentaries focusing on the importance and impact of dances at the camp.
