As the transfer saga surrounding Nyasa Big Bullets forward, Muhammad Sulumba, refuses to die after his transfer to South Africa Premier Soccer League side, Polokwane City, controversially collapsed on the transfer deadline all fingers have pointed at the People’s Team former Chairperson Sam Chilunga administration.
Chilunga’s administration has been accused of pocketing about R70,000 (about K3.5 million) from Polokwane as part payment.
The former People’s Team leader refused to take questions arguing that he was in a meeting and promised to return calls to Malawi News.
“I am in a short meeting so I can’t talk anything concerning Bullets right now. I will come back to you,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sulumba, expressed his disappointment and he has been playing hide and seek on his next move.
“I am disappointed, anyway I will speak when I get home,” said Sulumba in a telephone interview yesterday.
The bulky forward has given contradicting statements to both Bullets officials and the teams sponsor Nyasa Manufacturing Company.
“It seems he wants to force his way out of the club but we can’t unless we get a commitment letter that we will recover our money. Sulumba told our sponsor that he will return on Monday and gave a different version to our officials.
It seems someone is feeding him with wrong information,” said one reliable source at Bullets.
Bullets Acting General Secretary, Kelvin Moyo, said they would jointly work with responsible stakeholders to help Sulumba realise his professional dream and also recover the missing transfer fee.
Sulumba was pegged at R250,000 (about K12 500 000) whereas Polokwane paid R70,000 (about K3.5 million) upfront to the previous administration.
“We will hold special discussions with him. We can release him to join Polokwane on loan during the January transfer window. We will look at various ways to assist him (Sulumba),” he said.
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Transfer Marching System Manager, Casper Jangale, said there was room for Sulumba to join Polokwane but should be prepared to take risk.
“He can hold discussions with Bullets officials for mutual terminations of his contract where the terms should be decided by the two parties. He can also buyout his contract at Bullets to join Polokwane as a free agent. But before he does this he needs to have assurances from Polokwane City that they will sign him,” he said.
Sulumba was also linked with a Danish side but the move did not materialise. The former Be Forward Wanderers and Blantyre United striker also failed trials at Jomo Cosmos early this year.
