Malawian striker Henri Kumwenda is knocking on the door of Leeds United Under-23s after earning regular call-ups from the English Championship side’s Under-18s.
Kumwenda, who has since ruled out the possibility of representing Malawi saying he wants to focus on his club career, is a regular for Leeds Under-18s.
Information on Leeds’ website shows that the Lilongwe-born 18-year-old was an unused substitute when the under-23s drew 2-2 with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Sir Jack Hayward Training Ground on January 24 2020.
However, Kumwenda did not make the playing squad on January 21 when Leeds under-23 lost 2-0 to hosts Birmingham City.
English media reports that Leeds want to tie down Kumwenda to a professional contract amid interest from Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Football Association of Malawi has since indicated that it would vigorously pursue footballers of Malawi descent in Diaspora.
