Henry Moyo hints on retirement

By Mphatso Malidadi:

Long-distance runner, Henry Moyo, has hinted at retiring from athletics after competing in Mandela Marathon in South Africa on August 5 2019.

“I think I have done my part and it is about time I retired. Once I retire, I would establish Henry Moyo Athletics Running Club in Zomba to impart skills in younger ones,” said the athlete, who started his career in 1992.

Meanwhile, Moyo will be accompanied by Mphatso Nandolo, Godfrey Mpunga and Hopson Nyireda to South Africa after being invited by Universal Sports.

Prior to the championship, the four athletes would undergo camp training in South Africa.

Moyo also appreciated Malawi Police Service, Athletics Association of Malawi and Old Mutual for supporting him in his career.

Moyo has had a distinctive career, winning several medals in Malawi and on the international scene.

The runner first competed at Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, in 1996 and won Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Heroes Marathon in South Africa.

Moyo is also a record four-time winner of Nico/ Blantyre Marathon, now defunct.
