Highlands beckon Binwell Katinji for trials

BY MPHATSO MALIDADI:

Silver Strikers forward, Binwell Katinji, has reportedly been invited to undergo month-long trials at newly-promoted South Africa’s Premier Soccer League side, Highlands Park.

Silver, Katinji and the broker of the trials, Prince Jere of Touchline Sports Management Agency, have confirmed the development.

Silver General Secretary, Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, said they have received an invitation letter from Highlands for the trials.

“We have a policy whereby players are given freedom to realise their life-time opportunity. As such, Katinji is free to undergo the trials,” he said.

Katinji said he was excited with the offer. Of course, it is only a trial but, then, it can take me to another level in my career. In the meantime, I need to discuss with my club and agent on how to go about the logistics,” he said.

Jere said the trials are set to begin on August 4.

“He needs to familiarise himself so as to adapt well and impress,” he said.

Highlands, whose base is Balfour Park Stadium, also invited Silver winger Duncan Nyoni for trials last year but he did not make it.

Earlier, Highlands offered Nyasa Big Bullets defender Miracle Gabeya a contract but the deal fell through following disagreements between the two clubs over a transfer fee.
