Hockeys Dreams extend to Mzuzu
As part of its talent identification exercise, Hockey Dreams Academy wants to extend its operations to Mzuzu next month.
The academy’s Technical Director, Geoff Biya, said they were expanding the programme to increase their catchment area for players.
“As Hockey Dreams, we have operational since 2014, and we feel that time is ripe for us to go to Mzuzu. The project started in Blantyre almost four years ago and last year, we extended our operations to Zomba and Lilongwe,” he said.
The academy targets youngsters between the ages of six and 15 years.
Biya said, under the programme, 200 junior players undergo training every weekend at the Hockey Stadium in Blantyre.
“We also have 10 volunteer coaches that assist us in the project,” he said.
Hockey Dreams International of the Netherlands funds the project. Similar projects are running in Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
