Hotel Victoria Match Play leaves a mark

Hotel Victoria Match Play golf tournament ended on an impressive note at Blantyre Sports Club on Saturday with winners in different categories being rewarded handsomely.

In the main Match Play event, Paul Araujo and Narsir Surtee defeated Furkan Gani of Hotel Victoria 3-2.

The champions received trophies and K100,000 Into Sports shopping voucher whereas Gani surrendered his runner-up prize of K75,000 to Blantyre Sports Club Golf Captain Webster Kaunga.

In the singles plate category, Medson Kalambule demonstrated true sportsmanship when he emerged for fulfilling his fixtures after others had withdrawn.

“The true winner is Hotel Victoria. As golfers, we must make sure to honour these events because the sponsor invests a lot of resources into these tournaments,” Kalambule said.

To spice the match play, Hotel Victoria also sponsored another tournament where a field of 52 golfers took part.

In ladies category, Shelon Marques, playing of handicap 27 posted 37 points to emerge winner whereas fast-improving Joline Bapu, playing of handicap 28, finished second with 35 points.

Marques said she was excited with her recent outstanding performances and she vowed to continue working hard.

“I am really enjoying my golf. I am practising to perfect my shots most of the times,” she said.

In men’s category, Simon Moses, playing of handicap eight, finished at the top with 39 points, one ahead of Francis Mwansa who ended on second position with 38 points while playing of handicap 19.

Suwer Osman, playing of handicap 13, ended on third position with 37 points.

In individual prizes, Alfred Chikale hit the longest ball on hole number four whereas Connie Muguvu-Karuku won the ladies equivalent on hole number two.

Chimwemwe Chimwaza won nearest to the pin on hole 14.

Hotel Victoria Marketing Manager, Emma Chithenga, said they wanted to interact with their clients having been associated with golf for four years.

“Once Mary Lou Retton said a trophy carries dust but memories last forever. We want to keep you in 2016 Match play victory memories forever. Meanwhile, Victoria Hotel has a new wing with over 35 additional rooms. We also have Victoria Gardens with an amazing greenery landscape and it can host over 1,000 guests. We also have Victoria Catering to suit all occasions and in the meantime, Victoria Apartments will be unveiled soon,” she said.
