Apha Arts which has been licensed to run this year’s Miss Malawi said Monday the search for Miss Malawi 2022 has begun with auditions this coming weekend in Lilongwe.
The grand finale of the beauty pageant which is running under the tagline ‘Unleash Your True self’ will be held on December 3.
The beauty pageant has not been held for four years now but organisers insisted that they were ready to put Miss Malawi office back on track and run it professionally.
Apha Arts Managing Director Francis Kaphuka popularly known as Hyphen in the music circles said they will start the auditions on Friday in Lilongwe before moving to Blantyre and Mzuzu.
“We are happy with the response that we have got so far since we announced that we have the licence to run the beauty pageant. We have the numbers but we still need more and so, for those who did not manage to register online, we are also opening up for walk in registration,” Kaphuka said.
He admitted that time was against them but assured the nation that they would race faster in their undertakings starting with the auditions.
Recently during the crowning of Miss Culture Malawi, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife Michael Usi, called upon beauty pageants in the country to be serious with their events as well as connect with them for proper coordination.
Monday Usi welcomed Alpha Arts’ gesture but said since the Miss Malawi office was a national pride, they needed to be consulted.
“We are happy when we have such events but being something which is of national pride, we need to be consulted to map the way forward otherwise we always welcome this and we would not deny them the chance to hold the event,” the minister said.
Kaphuka said it was important for them to work with Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife as a line ministry.
“We have already reached out to the ministry and we will continue to engage them because this is for the good of Malawi in terms of propelling tourism,” he said.
In a related development, Apha Arts Monday signed an agreement with Serendib Hotels and Resorts during an event held at Lotus Hotel in Blantyre.
Kaphuka hailed Serendib Hotels and Resorts for partnering with them saying the agreement will among others, accord them an opportunity to hold their events in their hotels.
“We are excited with this partnership and it has come at the right time as we look forward to our events and we know Serendib has got beautiful hotels which we can use in conducting our events,” he said.
Serendib Hotels and Resorts General Manager Rodney Goneso, said as part of their drive in promoting tourism and also showing the beauty of Malawi, they thought it wise to partner Apha Arts.
“Miss Malawi is a national pride and as Serendib Hotels, we thought of working with them and we know this will also help in giving us visibility and business but more importantly it is all about promoting tourism,” Goneso said.
The last Miss Malawi queen was Tiwonge Munthali.
