However, Kasungu National Park Manager, Dixy Makwale, said he was not aware of the matter and asked for more time to find out if indeed the hyena was from the park.
But according to Mzingwitsa, the four people were attacked on Monday, at around 6am at Longwe Village in the area of Chief Santhe in the district.
“The girl in the company of her mother was in the garden planting sweet potatoes. While there, a vicious hyena attacked her and she sustained serious injuries on various parts of her body. She is receiving treatment at Mchinji District Hospital,” said Mzingwitsa.
The police spokesperson said the hyena also attacked the mother before injuring two men who were trying to kill it.
The three are admitted to Kasungu District Hospital but the villagers killed the hyena.
