A concert that is set to appreciate the talent of rapper Hyphen, formerly Young Kay, is set to be held next month.

One of the organisers Emmanuel Chikuse said Tuesday the show, dubbed ‘A Hyphen Appreciation concert by the people and for the people’, has been inspired by a recent show that Mikozi Network held at its studios in Blantyre featuring Phungu Joseph Nkasa.

“We are still trying to put things together but we have made headway and the tentative date for now is April 3 2021,” Chikuse said.

A flyer has since been produced spelling out details of the concert to run live on Mfumu Hyphen Facebook page as well as calling for support from fans.

“The recent show by Mikozi Network gave me an idea that we needed to give Hyphen a platform. He is one talented rapper who has contributed a lot to the body of music in the country,” Chikuse said.

He said the other thing is to give Hyphen a platform to reach out to people during this time that there are no shows due to Covid.

“People are missing shows due to Covid and so this will be one to entertain people. I sold this idea to Hyphen after appreciating a show organised by Mikozi and Hyphen loved it,” Chikuse said.

He said he was trying to raise funds at the moment so as to hold a perfect concert.

“This concert will not only be there to offer entertainment but Hyphen will also take it as an opportunity to bring awareness on mental health. At the moment, things are developing as we go and hopefully we will not change. People are responding but we would love institutions to partner us and support us in whatever way,” Chikuse said.

Hyphen has since welcomed the idea saying he accepted it because it is something coming from the fans and for the fans.

“I could not deny them this. The whole project is still in the early stage but there is hope and the tentative date is April 3,” he said.

On taking up a role of mental health awareness, the ‘Anankabango’ star said the whole programme stems from an album he is working on.

“It is just a continuation of the album I am working on, Of course, I am refraining from talking about the new album until I finish everything,” he said.

Hyphen, has assured people that the album will be out later this year.

“A lot of material has been recorded and the delay is there because of trying to be perfect. I am happy that fans still love what I do and I am looking forward to this concert,” he said.
