I am not finished, says Njati Njedede

Hoarse voiced musician Njati Njedede, said Tuesday that he was still a force to reckon with in the music industry despite not being active of late.

Njedede was active in the past in terms of live performances starring with Fuggie Kasipa, who put him in the limelight through a number of collaborations.

“A lot of people I have met, keep on telling me I am finished but I am not. I am still active and soon they will get to hear more songs,” he said.

Njedede has since recorded two songs ‘Salome’ and ‘Corona’, adding to the several artists, who have dropped songs sensitising people about the pandemic.

Just like what other artists have done, in the corona song that is in reggae, Njedede, who has featured Licky Moo, calls on people to follow the necessary precautionary measures that have been put up by World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Health to avoid the spread of the virus.

It is a song that is not different from the other songs released only that Njedede still uses the power of his hoarse voice as well as his signature of ‘lalala, phu mbwelekete’ to stand out and take a leading role in giving advice.

In the song ‘Salome’ which is also in reggae and reggae dancehall, Njedede tells the story of Salome, who used her way out to have John the Baptist’s head.

The artist ties the story to the present day where leaders and chiefs make promises that end up affecting others.

Listening to the song which is in English and Chichewa, one observes that Njedede was trying to copy Joseph Hill’s style of music.

“I am thankful to Fuggie Kasipa for putting me in the limelight and be where I am today. The recording of the two songs is a testimony that I am there and I am in the process of releasing an album with resources permitting,” the artist said.

Njedede rose from the streets and was a minibus tout.

Recently Njedede also collaborated with Kasipa, who has also been out of the limelight with the track ‘Chikondi Chobeba’.

Njedede is also famed for the song ‘Umasiye’.
