TNM Super League leading scorer, Chiukepo Msowoya, has set himself a target of scoring 20 league goals this season.

Msowoya leads the Golden Boot Award race with 12 goals after overtaking Stain Davie of TN Stars and Civil Sporting Club attacker Raphael Phiri, who are on second place with 11 goals each.

The former South Africa’s Orlando Pirates star said he was determined to win the award this season.

However, Msowoya admitted that he faces stiff competition from Davie and Phiri.

“It is all to do with team-work. The likes of Patrick Phiri, Bright Munthali, Mike Mkwate and defenders [for Bullets] are also scoring regularly. This shows that we all want the team to achieve something this season.

“I do not want to focus too much on the Golden Boot Award but it is my desire to win it this season, as was the case in 2014 and 2015. I know that it won’t be easy but I believe that I can hit 20 goals this season,” Msowoya said.

The burly striker won the award after scoring 15 goals in 2014 and the following year he reclaimed it jointly with Innocent Bokosi of Red Lions with 14 goals.

Football analyst and coach, Enos Chatama, said it would not be easy for Msowoya to hit the 20-goal target in the remaining nine league games for Bullets.

But Chatama said Msowoya has an advantage because most of Bullets’ remaining games are scheduled for Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre where the People’s Team has been scoring regularly.

Msowoya has scored in all the games Bullets have played at the reopened stadium.

“Scoring 20 goals depends on how he will fare in the next three home games; otherwise, injuries and suspensions can undermine his dream,” he said.

Bullets lead the log table with 49 points from 21 matches.
