IIA complains about laxity, negligence among auditors

Internals auditors in the country have been urged to always abide by code of conduct and internationally set guidelines to remains professional and competitive on the global market.

Chief Executive Officer for the Institute of Internal Auditors Malawi Wilson Chipumphula made the call at the end of a three day workshop on international internal auditing standards held last Friday at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

He said professionalism in the auditing sector is mostly compromised by some players due to negligence and laxity.

“Internal auditing requires conformity to the set standards. The guides must complement the standards to avert compromise in professionalism,” Chipumphula told the participants.

Citing for example the recent historic financial scam in the country dubbed the cashgate, Chipumphula said this happened on the watch of internal auditors, hence a need to restore aggressiveness among players through training.

Are as of focus at the workshop included understanding the International professional practices framework and Mandatory guidance.

One of the participants, Enock Mkwezalamba, spoke highly of the training, saying it will help sharpen professional conduct among internal auditors
