Illovo trainee managers present practice reports

Illovo Sugar Malawi Limited on Friday held a day long management trainees annual conference at Moneymen Club in Blantyre where they presented reports on their experiences and made suggestions for improvements.

Illovo managing director Ray de Allende said the trainees, who are from the University of Malawi, have proven beneficial to both the company and the country.

He said after being trained at Illovo, some stay while others move to other companies.

University of Malawi pro-vice chancellor Alfred Mtenje said the university is pleased to be part of the training programme.

He said most managers in Malawi are products of Unima and that this gives the university an opportunity to assess how well the students are doing in the field especially in industry.

“Most of the training at the university is theoretical and the industrial part of it is supposed to be acquired when they get internship employment,” he said.

He said facilities such as the management trainee programme at Illovo provides feedback in terms of how well placed the graduates are and how relevant they are.

“Through such programmes, we are able to see areas which need improvement and adjustments, even curriculum review,” he said.
