By Llywellenie Mpasa:

The Institute of Marketing in Malawi (IMM) has encouraged marketing students to be part of innovators that will help the country achieve aspirations embedded in the Malawi 2063.

IMM Director of Membership Limbani Matola made the call on Wednesday during an engagement with students and academic staff at the Catholic University of Malawi (Cunima).

Matola said the Malawi 2063 blueprint, a master plan for transforming Malawi, defines the principles of ensuring that the vision is realised— that includes prioritising investments and holding each other accountable.

“In our continued efforts to make sure that marketers in Malawi are keeping up with current dynamic global industry trends, and are at par with their global counterparts in the industry, IMM engaged students and academic staff, mparting knowledge and preparing the student marketers for a world ahead.”

“Marketing discovers needs and wants of the society. It is the duty of marketers to sell this 2063 vision to the world,” Matola said.

Dean for the Faculty of Commerce at Cumina, Phillip Mbeta, said the interface was important.

“Apart from the theory of academic excellence gained from classrooms, the knowledge acquired from this lecture will help students make proper professional decisions that may affect their future,” he said.

William Andy Koloko, a fourth-year Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing student, said he was convinced IMM would be the determining force that may propel growth for Malawi in the long run.
