Immigration to adopt new e-visa payment system

By Patience Lunda:
The Department and Citizenship Services wants to adopt a new electronic visa payment system, an official from the department said Tuesday, after receiving reports that the e-visa platform rejects some payments
According to the department, the old system has mostly been affecting foreign visitors coming to Malawi.
National Immigration Public Relations Officer, Wellington Chiponde said there are some international banks that have a 3D secure facility that restricts some payments.
“The department is at an advanced stage to identify the payment gate way. The payment module has not necessarily been rejecting all payments but some were not going through due to bank restrictions,” he said.
Malawi Tourism Council Executive Director, Innocent Kaliati said the e-visa platform has been frustrating most tourists who have since ended up choosing other countries as tourism destinations.
“Let’s not see tourism suffer due to our own making hence we are urging the immigration department to deal with the challenge as soon as it can,” he said.
Malawi launched its e-visa platform in 2019 with an aim of making the process of getting a Malawi visa quicker and easier for foreign visitors.
