Imosys Netball Club is optimistic that the side will this season exorcise demons that have been haunting them in the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League race.

The giants started the 2023 season beating Prison Queens 58-43 at Blantyre Youth Centre.

Imosys coach-player Joana Kachilika said they had to start with a convincing win to underline their intent in the title race.

“We had to start with a win to show our desire to win the championship. Of course, Prison has been giving us problems and we prepared thoroughly by addressing our weaknesses,” she said.

Kachilika said if Imosys continue with the playing style and attitude then their chances of ending their 15-year trophy drought will be high this season.

Prison Coach Chisomo Kamtuliro said they will rectify their problems.

“We lost by a big margin and it is a bad result if we consider our recent results against the same team. We just need to pick ourselves up to rectify the mistakes and forge ahead,” he said.

In other matches on the opening weekend, Tremors defeated Chilomon Sisters 56-36 while Airforce Sisters beat Machinjiri Sisters 46-25.

Chileka Sisters beat rivals Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters 38-30 whereas Shizaella Queens beat Mubas Sisters 28-25.

Champions Kukoma Diamonds and runners-up First Choice Tigresses were on bye during the opening week.
