Vice President of the Republic of India, Shri Venkaiah Naidu, is in the country for a two-day official visit.
He also visited Botswana and Zimbabwe.
Venkaiah Naidu arrived Sunday through Kamuzu International Airport alongside other Indian government officials.
He was welcomed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emmanuel Fabiano.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Rejoice Shumba, said Venkaiah Naidu would meet President Peter Mutharika at Kamuzu Palace.
She said Venkaiah Naidu would also meet members of the Indian Community in Malawi, attend Malawi- India bilateral meetings, sign memoranda of understanding, and unveil plaques for some projects as well as present artificial limbs to five Malawian beneficiaries at Bingu International Conference Centre.
His visit comes at a time some citizens in the country have protested the erection of Mahatma Ghandhi statue in Blantyre, arguing that he did not contribute to the development of Malawi to deserve a statue erected in his honour.
