BISIKA—The expo is very significant

The government has expressed optimism that the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) international expo the country is set to host in August would contribute to development of the sector.

The two-day expo will be held at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe from August 22.

Department of E-Government Chief Director, Francis Bisika, said the expo would provide lessons for Malawi on how to improve the ICT sector.

“This expo is very significant to Malawi. International players will bring knowledge from their countries.

“Also, the government is reviewing the National ICT Policy of 2013. This expo will help us solicit suggestions on what to incorporate in the ICT Policy,” Bisika said.

ICT Association of Malawi President, Bram Fudzulani, encouraged stakeholders to participate in the expo.

“We would like to have a conversation on what they [stakeholders] think Malawi should look like in terms of ICT development. This is a platform for serious conversation to shape the development of ICT,” Fudzulani said.

The expo seeks to bring together stakeholders to discuss how to transform Malawi to an ICT-driven economy.

ICT Expo 2019, to be held under the theme ‘ICT as a Catalyst for Economic Growth’, is expected to attract a diverse range of ICT services and products providers.

It will feature such tech sectors such as telecoms, cyber security, cloud solutions, internet of things, e-commerce and apps, fintech and banking and e-government.
