TNM Super League leading goal scorer, Innocent Bokosi, will be in the limelight as Red Lions date Be Forward Wanderers at Kamuzu Stadium Thursday afternoon.
With 14 goals, Bokosi can increase his tally today as his closest challenger, Chiukepo Msowoya of Big Bullets, has 13 goals going into Sunday’s match against Civo United in Lilongwe.
Lions coach Pritchard Mwansa said they were on a double mission in their quest to leapfrog Wanderers who are on position five with 42 points. Lions have 41 points and lie seventh.
“We want to win and at the same time help our striker [Bokosi] extend his goals’ tally. This does not mean that every ball will go to Bokosi. We will play as a unit. Hopefully, Bokosi will get chances to improve his tally,” he said.
Bokosi said he was unmoved, adding that “the interest of the team has to come first. My colleagues have been supportive throughout.”
Wanderers coach Elia Kananji said they would like to finish strongly having enjoyed a four- game winning streak.
We cannot afford to mess up our final match of the season. We have to finish strongly,” he said.
In another interesting match, Silver Strikers host AzamTigers at Silver Stadium.
The Bankers have 43 points from 27 games while Tigers, who seem to be enjoying new lease of life, are sixth with 41 points.
Meanwhile, Blue Eagles can leapfrog second-placed Mafco if they beat Moyale at Mzuzu Stadium also today.
A victory for Eagles will mean that they will tie at 50 points each with Mafco. However, the Nankhaka-based cops have a better goal difference of 16, three ahead of the Lions of Kaning’ina.
